    Description
    A.T. Still University seeks to fill two full-time exempt tenure-track assistant or associate professor positions in the Microbiology/Immunology Department at the Kirksville, MO campus. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree with formal training in any subdiscipline of microbiology, immunology, or infectious diseases. Additionally, candidates should possess at least two years of postdoctoral experience, demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive and innovative teaching, and show potential for developing an independent research program. The successful candidate will hold teaching positions in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) and biomedical science graduate programs at Kirksville College of Osteopathic medicine, and in the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program at the Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health. This role requires a balance between teaching, research, and service as determined by the department chair.

    Requirements
    Major Job Duties

    • Present 20-40 lectures per year to medical, dental, and biomedical sciences students enrolled in the Medical Microbiology, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases courses at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, and in the Biomedical Sciences & Dental Sciences courses at the Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health.
    • Develop and/or revise learning objectives, lecture notes, slideshows, supplemental media (e.g., videos or podcasts) and assessment tools for these courses.
    • Develop cases and facilitate small group case-based exercises for department courses. 
    • Develop and teach wet labs for Medical Microbiology and Immunology.
    • Collaborate with faculty in the basic science and clinical departments to develop and deliver interdisciplinary educational content.
    • Develop an independent research program in the field of medical microbiology, immunology, or infectious diseases.
    • Show evidence of research productivity by publishing results in refereed journals and presenting findings at national or international research conferences.
    • Seek extramural research funding within 3 years of hiring.
    • Mentor biomedical, medical, and/or dental students in research projects.
    • nterview applicants for the medical and biomedical sciences programs.
    • Serve on college and university committees as assigned.
    • Write COMLEX board questions and/or serve on NBOME item review committees.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean of KCOM.

    Education/Training

    • Doctoral degree (DO, PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent) with specific training/experience in medical microbiology, immunology, infectious diseases or a closely related field.
    • At least 2 years of postdoctoral training or the equivalent.
    • Experience delivering microbiology/immunology content in higher education.
    • Evidence of teaching excellence in higher education.
    • Evidence of research productivity, e.g., published papers, conference presentations, and funded grants.

    Each KCOM faculty member has their own research space and private office, as well as access to Core Facilities (DNA Sequencing Lab; Imaging Facility with confocal laser scanning microscope, fluorescence-activated cell sorter, immunohistochemistry wet lab, histopathology slide scanner, Cytation 5 cell imaging multimode reader), and an AALAS-accreditied animal care facility with no per diem charges. KCOM’s Research Reinvestment Policy allows faculty to supplement their salaries from extramural grants, providing income that is in addition to the faculty member’s regular salary.
