Position Summary
Saint Louis University School of Medicine invites applications or nominations for the position of Chair for the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology (MMI). The Chair reports to the Vice President of Medical Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine, and is responsible for leadership and management of the education and research missions of the University, School of Medicine, and the Department.
Housed in a state-of-the-art research and teaching complex with other basic science departments in the SLU School of Medicine, MMI is a collaborative, innovative, inclusive, and dynamic department. The department mission includes:
- Providing outstanding training opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and medical students and post-doctoral fellows.
- Advancing scientific knowledge through research and scholarly activity.
- Developing new strategies to improve human health.
Department faculty, students, and postdoctoral fellows conduct research in areas including cancer immunology, autoimmunity, infectious diseases, and vaccine development. As a multidisciplinary department that uses cutting-edge techniques and technologies, the department benefits from a highly collaborative environment and outstanding core research facilities at the medical school as well as the wider university. Departmental research is enhanced through access to genomics, imaging, and animal core facilities, among others, and the department offers opportunities for membership in collaborative centers including the Institute for Drug and Biotherapeutic Innovation (IDBI) and the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences. Members of the department have access to the nationally acclaimed Cortex Innovation Community, as well as to multiple local startup-supporting institutions that are part of the fast-growing, cutting-edge medical and biotechnology community operating throughout the St. Louis region.
Qualifications

The Chair will be capable of cultivating and enhancing the strong culture of faculty and researcher engagement and accountability and will bring a willingness to learn and collaborate in all aspects of the School’s strategic approach to education, research, diversity, and inclusion.
