Leadership in Antimicrobial Resistance Research

Michigan State University aims to develop prominence in combating the global threat of antimicrobial resistance by major investments in multidisciplinary hires of up to eight new faculty investigators across all academic ranks (Assistant Professor to Professor). Michigan State offers an outstanding environment for carrying out basic and translational research on antimicrobial resistance from a broad range of perspectives. Academic homes in any of several Departments and Colleges are expected, including Plant, Soil & Microbial Sciences; Microbiology & Molecular Genetics; Medicine (Infectious Diseases); Pediatrics; Pharmacology & Toxicology; Large Animal Clinical Sciences; Chemistry; Civil and Environmental Engineering; Food Science and Human Nutrition; Biomedical & Biosystems Engineering. Interest areas include environmental and human health risk-assessment of antimicrobial resistance; evolution of resistance; horizontal transmission of resistance traits; infectious threats from resistant microbes in humans and animals; behavior of antimicrobial agents in the environment; the international dimension of antimicrobial resistance; identification of novel therapeutic targets; drug development. Competitive startup and salary packages are available for these positions.

Applicants with a Ph.D., D.V.M., or M.D. or equivalent degree(s) and, for senior-level applicants, an internationally recognized research program, should apply with: i) Current NIH Biosketch; ii) statement of not more than 5 pages describing future research plans, and the impact the applicant aims to have on the field in the next five-10 years; iii) contact information for three individuals who could serve as references; candidates will be consulted before references are contacted.
