Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Airborne Infectious Disease Transmission
Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
New York, NY

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai invites applications for an NIH-funded, multi-disciplinary Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in a laboratory studying the airborne transmission of influenza viruses, and potentially other respiratory pathogens, in animal models.

The successful applicant will perform hands-on experiments with influenza viruses in laboratory animals and will assist with the application of experimental data to theoretical models of infectious disease transmission.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Basic research experience in microbiology and/or animal models of human disease; biomedical engineering, fluid dynamics, aerosol science; or related fields;
• A Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree; and
• An intended 3-year commitment.

This research project crosses several disciplines, and thus no candidate is expected to have prior experience in all applicable areas. However, the successful candidate will be highly motivated and will have the desire to explore new fields within a multidisciplinary team. All applicants with a doctoral degree and research experience in areas such as Infectious Diseases, Pulmonary Medicine, Engineering, or Virology are encouraged to apply.

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is an NIAID Center of Excellence in Influenza Research and Surveillance, conducting novel collaborative research into influenza virus pathogenesis, host restriction, transmission, evolution and host adaptation, evasion of immunity, and induction of host responses.
