Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology
University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences

The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences (UTCOM&LS) seeks candidates for the position of Robert A. Stranahan Professor and Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology. The Department is in an exciting phase of growth and faculty expansion.

The University of Toledo (UT) Board of Trustees and ProMedica Health System – a 12 hospital regional system ranked among America’s 100 Best by Healthgrades – recently announced a fifty-year Academic Affiliation Agreement. The agreement includes a commitment by ProMedica to financially support the development of research and education programs for an academic medical center that will be among the best in the country. As a result, the next Chair of Medical Microbiology and Immunology (MMI) will have unparalleled opportunities and resources to lead UTCOM&LS’s MMI Departmental growth through the recruitment of new faculty and development of new programs and collaborations.

The Department of MMI seeks an outstanding individual to serve as the next Chair with the Robert A. Stranahan Endowed Professorship. The new Chair will have the opportunity to significantly shape the Department’s future. The ideal candidate is a basic, clinical-translational or translational scientist with a distinguished publication track record and contemporary extramurally funded research in themes including but not limited to the microbiome and its impact on health and disease, innate or acquired immunity, microbial pathogenesis, development of innovative vaccines or immunotherapeutics for infectious diseases or cancer, and inflammatory disorders caused by immune dysregulation. Leading edge research is supported by the Advanced Microscopy & Imaging Center, Flow Cytometry Core Lab, and a BSL-3 Lab.

The next Chair will inherit a strong foundation for the inevitable transformation of the Department into one that is nationally ranked and recognized for leading edge research and exceptional educational contributions. The Chair must be a compelling and collaborative leader whose passion for the educational, service, and research missions energizes the faculty and staff, focusing their efforts on a strategic vision of excellence in all missions.

UTCOM&LS is deeply committed to ensuring that the Department of MMI is recognized among the best in the nation, and has set the stage for its next Chair to successfully lead the Department in that direction.
