The Département de microbiologie, infectiologie et immunologie of the Faculté de médecine of Université de Montréal (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) is seeking applications for :

One investigator specialized in research on the microbiome and bacterial metabolism (Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in microbiome and prokaryotic metabolism)

This recruitments is in line with the strategic priorities of the Faculté de médecine to expand the critical mass and develop a strong, university-wide multidisciplinary network of experts on the microbiome. The recruit will be affiliated with the Département de microbiologie, infectiologie et immunologie of the Faculté de médecine.

We are seeking 1 (one) early-career (junior) microbiologist with expertise in the human microbiome and/or microbial communities. We are particularly interested in candidates with a profile in bacteriology and expertise in bacterial metabolism and/or research on new targets for antibiotics. The ideal candidates must :

- hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in the appropriate discipline;
- a relevant post-doctoral experience;
- a record of research productivity;
- a potential to secure extramural research funding.

Experience in « omics » approaches and/or translational/transdisciplinary research is of interest for all candidates. The primary responsibilities of the chosen candidate will be to establish and maintain an independent, original, innovative and internationally recognized research program focused on the human microbiome and health. Teaching responsibilities will be focused on microbiology according to the area(s) of expertise of the successful candidate.

The language of teaching at the Université de Montréal is French; language training is offered to non-French speakers who will be required to be sufficiently proficient to teach in French after a period of three years.

The objective of the Canada Research Chairs Program is to attract and retain particularly promising young researchers in the Canadian academic system. Appointment of a Canada Research Chair is subject to review and approval by the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat (TIPS). The selected candidate will also be considered for a Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Leaders fund.
