The Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia seeks a postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Hervé Agaisse, Ph.D. The incumbent will conduct genetic and biochemical experiments to understand the mechanisms supporting host pathogen interaction and be in charge of the development and implementation of investigative procedures to uncover the mechanisms supporting intracellular infection with intestinal pathogens, such as Listeria monocytogenes and Shigella flexneri.

The successful candidate will have a recent Ph.D. in a biological science and/or an M.D. in hand by the start date. Candidates must have experience conducting experiments in a research laboratory including molecular biology techniques such as DNA cloning and experience in bacterial genetics. Other requirements include strong organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work concurrently on several projects and meet deadlines. Candidates with experience in cell biology techniques such as tissue culture and live confocal microscopy are strongly preferred.
